Complete Analytical Training for the Petroleum Scientist – Bridging the Gap Between Engineers and the Lab

This workshop includes a complete virtual tour of the analytical laboratory for the petroleum industry. We discuss many analytical instruments and their basic function and technology. This will include GCs, ICP, ICP-MS, XRD, XRF, elemental analyzers, titrators and more.

This workshop also bridges the gap that some chemists experience while discussing the engineer needs including reading P&ID, block flow diagram, online analyzers, sampling, and sampling system.

And finally, we discuss the different standardized methodologies including ASTM, UOP, IFP, GPA methods and dive into QA/QC including repeatability and reproducibility.

The workshop is heavily supported by real world examples and as an open forum for questions and answers throughout the workshop.

This is a 1-, 2- or 3-day workshop depending on the needs. The longer workshops will go into more details in each section. Each class is limited to 50 students per class.

Quality Management for the Laboratory

This workshop brings a philosophical approach to statistical quality control management for the laboratory, reviewing tools available to improve the quality control.

We explore the quality systems, laboratory environment, the instrumentations, method validation, and calibration issues that laboratories face daily.

We further examine data management, staff competence assessment and customer satisfaction.

The workshop includes time for open discussion and real world examples in the laboratory.

Sampling System Essentials

This workshop is dedicated to the extensive overview of sampling systems in the process units for online analyses.

The workshop covers a look at the design, considerations, fundamentals with emphasis on understanding the measurement details which will impact final analytical needs, including representative samples, probe choices, time delay, phase considerations, and saple conditioning.
